Local DC

Mix Six: August 12, 2025

August 12, 2025

Introducing a new regular feature!  Inspired by the “Five Things” on KidFriendly DC, this weekly mix of six items will include upcoming local events to put on your radar; DC places and people to know about; new exhibits or live entertainment to check out; restaurant recs; book, movie, tv show, and podcast suggestions; style and home ideas; and random things that might make you laugh, think, or offer a possibly needed distraction.  I hope you’ll find them useful, interesting, and/or inspiring.  Happy Mixing!

1. Summer Restaurant Week in the DC area is August 18-24.  Participating restaurants will be offering three-course meals — lunch & brunch for $25 and $35 and dinner for $35, $45, and $55.  It’s a great time to try out new places (or enjoy a meal deal at a favorite).  A few suggestions:  Amazonia, Love Makoto, Moon Rabbit, Pastis, Minetta Tavern, VIlla Yara, The Bazaar by José Andrés.  Be sure to make reservations!

2. This Friday, August 15, you can enjoy baseball and music at Nationals Park. The Nats Postgame Summer Concert Series is back with a performance by Sam Hunt after the 6:45pm game against the Phillies, and all attendees can stay for the show for free.  Game tickets start at $23, and if you want to get close to the stage for the show, you can upgrade to on-field passes for $73.

3. A few shows coming to DC stages soon with tickets deals: Damn Yankees at Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Merry Wives of Windsor, Hamlet: Prince of Denmark  at Wolf Trap, The Sound of Music at the Kennedy Center.

4. After wearing the same brand and model of running shoes for over 20 years (Mizuno Wave Rider, if you’re wondering), I just switched over to Hoka and love them!  I wore them everywhere on our recent trip to Europe, and they were so comfortable for walking around all day and running  (plus, cute with many outfits).

5. Currently reading and enjoying.

6. The most beautiful bookstores in the world.
